Elizabeth Strohfus – 91 and still flying
Elizabeth Wall Strohfus will recall her groundbreaking and dangerous flying experiences as one of the 1,074 Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) during WWII. When the war ended, the women pilots were told to go home, without veteran status, or even bus fare. They weren’t considered “real” military pilots until 1977 when these women aviators were finally recognized. They received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor given by Congress.
Don’t miss this remarkable presentation by an amazing woman.
Once again the League of Women Voters and American Association of University Women will join forces to help their own members as well as the general public in attendance to understand several social and political issues facing voters in November. On Thursday, October 7, starting at 5:30 in the auditorium of the Minnesota State College – Southeast Technical a panel will discuss and entertain questions regarding such issues as health care reform, poverty, economy, education, violence and emerging issues. The panel will be comprised of Senator Sharon Erickson Ropes, Winona County Board Member Marcia Ward, Women’s Resource Center Advocate and Staff Member Eryn Redig, Assistant Public Defender Karin Sonneman, and Past Director of Winona County Health Services Lynn Theurer. This meeting is free and open to the general public.
